Kern Water Collaborative Launches Free Domestic Well Testing and Bottled Water Delivery Program
Applications Now Open for Safe and Clean Drinking Water Solutions
Kern County, CA – June 11, 2025 – Kern Water Collaborative has launched a free well-testing program for domestic well users in the Kern County Poso and Kern County Westside South Groundwater Subbasins. At this time, general coverage areas are North of the Kern River, outside of public water system service areas, and in communities such as Buttonwillow, Wasco, Lost Hills, Delano, McFarland, Shafter, Rosedale, and more.
With many local residents relying on private domestic wells as their primary water source, some may not realize their wells could have nitrate levels above the drinking water standard. This program provides domestic well water quality testing and provides safe drinking water solutions for those who need it most.
“This program ensures access to safe, clean drinking water for the residents of these rural communities,” said Nicole Bell, Executive Director of Kern Water Collaborative. “Domestic well testing helps residents understand their water quality, and KWC will provide safe and clean drinking water solutions, if needed.”
Assistance Available: Qualified residents will receive free domestic well testing and, if necessary, access to bottled water at no cost.
The application process is quick and easy, and applications are now open. Residents are encouraged to apply to take advantage of this service.
To see if you qualify for free domestic well testing and drinking water solutions, follow these three simple steps:
1. Apply Online: Visit welltest.kwcmz.org to complete a short Household Qualification Survey, to determine if you qualify.
2. Well Test Access Agreement: If the household qualifies you will receive a Well Test Access Agreement, by email or SMS, that must be signed and returned to KWC, to have a well test scheduled.
3. Bottled Water Delivery Agreement: If the well test identifies nitrate levels above the drinking water standard, free bottled water will be provided. Please complete and return the Bottled Water Delivery Agreement, that will be provided by email or SMS.
